How Much is Up To You?

Corrie-Beth Lipowski

Call me crazy but I love to see people happy and succeeding. (If you know me, you knew that already. ) But when it comes to your own happiness and success, how much of life is really up to you?

Since I was a little girl, I wanted to understand what makes people behave the way they do. It’s no wonder I dual majored in psychology. Yet, there’s something that still gets me each time I sit down with a new client.

I’m sharing this with you because I want you to know you are not alone. I also want you to dig deep and really consider how much of your life, your body and your happiness is up to you. I’ve met with 118 nutrition clients next door in our nutrition office and coached at least 335 people on their nutrition. This is not meant to impress you but to impress upon you a single commonality all 453 people share.

Are you ready for it?

All 453 have expressed they are unhappy with at least one part of their body… most are unhappy with their body in general.

*Deep breath*

Hearing this day after day, session after session, makes my heart hurt. Are we all really unhappy with the bodies we’ve been given OR perhaps we could do a slightly better job taking care of the amazing self-healing machines we are blessed to live in?

There is a very strong correlation between taking care of yourself and feeling good about yourself. While we can’t always eat perfect meals and exercise the perfect number of times each week, that’s okay! BUT you should be proud of the work you DO do and the food you do put in your body. This doesn’t mean depriving yourself of a big glass of bold red cabernet because God knows Mike and I would go crazy without it. It DOES mean assessing what you’re fueling your body with on a regular basis.

I love this Amy Poehler quote and perhaps it’ll speak to you the way it does me, “Watching great people do what you love is a good way to start learning how to do it yourself.”

Here’s my message to you today:

STOP thinking and START DOING > Pick a meal prep day and follow through!

STOP criticizing and START CELEBRATING > Celebrate ALL things.. big and small. Celebrate your workout today! Celebrate you got out of bed!

STOP comparing and START APPRECIATING > Comparison is the thief of joy. AND you never know someone else’s story or situation.

You are AMAZING. You are an INSPIRATION. We are GRATEFUL for you. And you should be GRATEFUL for you, too!

Most of your life is up to you. Examine the things you are unhappy with and strategize a way to change them. You are in control.. and if you need a little help (or love) we are here to guide you along!
