Spring Cleaning

By Sarah Garcia

Spring is here and it is time to get rid of some old habits and make way for the new. When you think of spring cleaning you most likely think of reorganizing your house to freshen it up, ditch the clutter, and make it shine. This month we challenge you to spring clean…

Your Mind

Say goodbye to negativity. Quit the habit of telling yourself you can’t, won’t or are not strong/good enough to reach your goals. Stop comparing yourself to others and let go of past failures. It is impossible to move forward if you are still stuck in the past and holding on to negative feelings, thoughts, anger or aggression. Ditch these emotions that weigh you down and welcome in positivity to your life. Be thankful for the things you have and grateful for the future. Be kind to yourself and others, talk positively about yourself and your goals, and be proud of your accomplishments no matter how big or small they may be. Once you clean out your mind and let the positivity shine, you will most likely be amazed about just how great the world around you really is and see your true potential.

Your Body

We only get one body in this lifetime so treat it like gold. Therefore avoid unnecessary toxins and food/drink entering your body by eliminating alcohol, sugar, processed foods and drinks from your diet. Swap out sugary Starbucks drinks for a flavored coffee with almond milk and find other substitutions to keep you satisfied but do not reap havoc on your body. Start buying organic fruits and vegetables to limit the amount of pesticides entering your body. Make sure to get the right amount of protein, fats and carbohydrates and remember that if you need someone to help you figure out your caloric count and types of foods you should be consuming reach out and ask for help. We also recommend clearing out your cleaning products that contain harmful and hazardous toxins that can affect your health and replacing them with more natural products that are much kinder to the body. The same goes for the soaps and skincare products you are using on your body. Eliminate harsh products and start finding ones that will nourish your skin without letting toxins in.

Your Kitchen Cabinets

Go home, throw open all your cabinets, the pantry, the refrigerator and any other place you stash food. Take a good look and then begin trashing all the food items that are not going to help you to spring clean your body and help it perform at its best. Toss the white bread, the candy, the processed snacks, baked goods, juices, etc. and make room for nutrient dense fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats/poultry and fiber rich foods. Get rid of any expired food and donate any canned goods that just sit in the cabinet without being consumed and can help someone else in need. Organize your food in your fridge keeping a distinct section for fruit, vegetables, lean meats, dairy (eggs, milk, almond milk, yogurt). This way you will know exactly where to go to grab the type of food you want and will help eliminate waste and in the end save you a lot of money.

Get ready to Spring forward and feel your best. Now get to work!!!
